Giving Back

We’re working to make Springfield and the Ozarks great!

The News-Leader Media Group doesn't just cover our community; we're a part of it. That's why we believe the role of the News-Leader involves more than reporting the news. From community journalism projects like the Every Child Promise to our annual Share Your Christmas campaign, our commitment is to improve areas where we live and work. Each year the News-Leader works with dozens of local organizations to support fundraising efforts aimed at making Springfield a better place to live and work.

News-Leader employees provide hours of volunteer time serving on local boards, committees, service organizations and community projects. They also donate time and money to assist needy families and nonprofit organizations through two main channels:

Gannett Foundation:  A philanthropic foundation sponsored by Gannett, the Gannett Foundation supports nonprofit activities in Springfield and other communities in which Gannett does business. Since 1977, the Gannett Foundation has made more than $2.7 million in local grants. In addition, the Foundation matches employee donations to nonprofits.

Make A Difference Day: Millions of people and many businesses come together on the fourth Saturday in October to participate in Make A Difference Day. It is the largest national day of helping others and is sponsored by Gannett’s USA WEEKEND and its carrier newspapers, including the News-Leader. Each year, dozens of News-Leader and local Gannett employees and their family members volunteer on a common initiative to help our neighbors in need
